The timeframe for an MHRM degree

An MHRM degree requires 48 credits. Most full-time students complete the degree in two years. If they waive or transfer in enough credits, it can be completed in one and a half years.

We also have a five-year program with the Rutgers School of Business in which students in the organization management major take specific courses as undergraduates and, if accepted into the MHRM program, can complete this degree in one year. In addition, we have a five-year arrangement with Rowan University and are exploring similiar arrangements with The College of New Jersey and Stockton College.

The cost of an MHRM degree

The current cost per credit is approximately $600 in-state and $900 out-of-state. Off campus programs (Jersey City) are approximately $1,100 per credit.

Career paths after earning an MHRM degree

An HR professional may manage one of the HR functional areas or a general HR unit. A career as a general manager of a business unit is also common. Successful careers often include international experience and involvement in organizational change processes such as mergers and acquisitions, downsizing, and re-engineering.

Most graduates begin their careers in specialized HR functions. Typical entry-level jobs in larger organizations include:

  • HR Associate (part of a developmental rotational program)
  • Compensation Analyst
  • Recruiter
  • Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action (EEO/AA) Analyst
  • Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) Coordinator
  • Training and Development Professional
Typical entry-level jobs in smaller organizations, include:
  • Staffing Administrator
  • Compensation Administrator
  • HR Generalist supporting an organizational unit
Most career paths in HRM include attaining in-depth competency in one or two HR functional areas, such as:
  • Compensation
  • Recruitment
  • Selection
  • Training and Development
  • Human Resource Information Systems
  • Management Development
Salary after attaining an MHRM degree

Starting salaries are competitive with MBA graduates entering HR staff work, in the $58,000-$90,000 range for individuals with varying amounts of experience. Sign-on incentives have ranged from $5,000-$30,000. Prior HR experience brings higher salaries and more responsible positions. Those students without prior experience who do internships have a greater market value and are frequently offered jobs by the organizations with whom they intern. As Vice Presidents of HR increasingly become members of corporate executive committees and boards of directors – annual base compensation for senior managers often exceeds $350,000. Salaries in large organizations can substantially exceed this amount.
