On July 11, 2000, the Director of Representation of the Public Employment Relations Commission issued a decision resolving the 11 challenged ballots in the April 10, 2000 run-off election among non-supervisory administrative employees at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. It was decided that the majority of voters has chosen not to be represented by a union.

311 ballots were cast for NO REPRESENTATIVE and 304 were cast for representation by the New Jersey Education Association. Because the 11 challenged ballots were sufficient to affect the outcome, PERC conducted an investigation concerning the challenges. Both parties submitted position statements together with supporting documents and affidavits. The Director has now decided that 5 of the challenged ballots are void. Therefore, even if the 6 other challenged ballots were opened and cast in favor of NJEA, it still would not have a majority of the votes cast.

The University is grateful to all employees who participated in this important election and is pleased that the voters have decided in a free election to express their confidence in the University.
