Human Resources representative Brenda Lewis explained HR’s response to Transit Check program presented to Administration this past January 2000 by the Salary and Compensation Committee.
HR decided not to go with the Transit Check program. Ms. Lewis explained HR’s proposal as the "Mass Transit Reimbursement Plan." This system would work on a pre-tax basis similar to the Flexible Savings Acct.,whereby the employee can deduct up to $65/ month in an account, up to $780 per year. Then each employee would submit for reimbursement through the plan. Being a pre-tax plan, this would then lower the employee’s income for tax purposes, consequently lowering the employee’s federal tax. This Plan should be implemented by next year (2001).
Rose Kulp asked about the transfer of sick time plan that the committee proposed. Ms. Lewis said that this program would no longer be an issue. Also, the question about 2 hours per month leave time allowed for volunteer programs an employee would be involved with, was also withdrawn.
The Salary Committee is abolished for the time being
Sydell Spinner asked if there is any more Union activity being circulated. HR. had no answer. Carol Bradley mentioned that the Union will again try for a vote later next year.
BY-LAW COMMITTEE REPORT, Tina Sohn -
All members were distributed a copy of bylaw changes. Discussion followed -
It was proposed of the changes presented by Tina, the following should also be changed.
1.VII. MEETINGS page 5 paragraph 1-"periodically "would change to "discuss all new material, minimally one meeting per semester."
2. IV. ELECTION PROCEDURE page 3 paragraph 2 - ......to the Administrative Assembly at the March (change to April) general meeting,......
3. V. OFFICERS page 4 paragraph 1-change vice-president to "Vice-President/President-Elect."
4. Anywhere the word "President" is printed, should add "President of Assembly", so as not to be confused with President of the University.
5. X. AMENDING THESE BY-LAWS page 6 paragraph 1- the word "submitted" to "made available".
New By-laws accepted October 20, 2000. By-Laws Committee thanked.
S. Beaudrow presented Executive Committee. Campus Liaisons were contacted and asked to prepare Campus Workshops in 2001. Initiate Campus workshops to explain the purpose of the Assembly. It was offered that the Assembly should provide key-chains or some other token to remember us by.
DISCUSSIONS -
Suggested that the Assembly provide beverages and snacks at meetings, especially if meetings are held during lunch hour.
Staff development workshops.
Dates proposed for meetings should be at least one per semester, and 1.5 hrs. in length.
Teleconferencing was becoming cumbersome and Sue explained the reasons for the current teleconferencing, because of Campus locations and access to meetings. Sue also proposed meetings be held periodically on Newark and Camden campuses. Also mentioned the possibility of requesting a motor pool van to transport delegates to the different locations for off-site meetings.
The newsletter "The Administrator" will return soon. An article in the newsletter should contain HR’s. policy on problem solving, and what the proper procedures are. What do the steps 1,2,3 and 4 mean and how are they carried out. Brenda Lewis (HR rep) was asked to bring the policy on problem solving to our next meeting for delegates to view. Apparently there is a misunderstanding about the role of the Administrative Assembly and Employee Relations. At present no delegates are available for problem solving, all questions should be referred to Jeff of Employee Relations. It was suggested that Sue and Rose contact ER. and work out just what the procedures are. The procedures should be printed out so that an employee could use them for him/herself.
