  • Committee to Review Performance & Reward Systems

    On December 16, the President's Cabinet adopted the project plan developed to implement the recommendations of the Committee to Review Performance and Reward Systems. The key activities of the plan will be accomplished by the following groups, which are just now beginning their tasks:

    1. A project steering committee comprised of a key representative for each Cabinet member, the Administrative Assembly President and the Chair of the Assembly's Salary & Compensation Committee, and representatives from Employee Relations and Personnel Services;

    2. An external advisory committee comprised of members from the private industry community who are experts in compensation matters;

    3. A communications strategy team to advise in the assessment, analysis, development, and delivery of communications in support of the ongoing project. Membership on the committee includes Pam Blake, Sandy Lanman, Pat McFadden, Steve Otzenberger, Brent Ruben, Karen Stubaus, and Matt Weismantel;

    4. A training strategy team to advise in the assessment, analysis, development, and delivery of training and education methods and approaches in support of the ongoing project. Membership on the committee includes Mary Ann Cancio, Pat Grove, Pat McFadden, Mary Nikola, Rich Novak, Steve Otzenberger, Brent Ruben, and Karen Stubaus;

    5. A research work team to serve as the primary work group involved in benchmarking "best practices" and recommending approaches to the steering committee. The team will consist of staff from the offices of Institutional Research and Personnel Services.

    The general timetable for the next phase of the project is as follows:

    January-June

    Work teams initiate and conduct study of best compensation, performance, and training practices, with initial focus on developing recommendations for the FY99 A/P/S compensation plan

    February

    University-wide communication about the project status and direction

    FY98 performance appraisal and merit award programs are announced

    March

    Cabinet considers recommendations for FY99 A/P/S compensation plan

    May

    Cabinet considers recommendations for the next stages of the project.
