Rutgers offers research assistantships, fellowships, and teaching assistantships to qualified graduate students with strong records of scholastic achievement and scholarly promise. Graduate research assistantships carry a stipends of between $16,000 and $19,000 per calendar year and remission of tuition.  Howatt Fellowhips and McLaren Fellowships are available for outstanding students. They carry a stipend of $18,000 per year plus tuition. Starting in Fall 2000 many of the students will be offered  First Year assistantships which will allow the student to concentrate more on academics during the first year.  

Several other Fellowships are available.   There are also Garden State Graduate Fellowships, administered through the New Jersey Department of Higher Education, for which state residents are eligible. Applications for the above awards must be received by March 1. For further information, contact the program director.
