Fiber Optic Materials Research Program Rutgers' Fiber Optic Materials Research Program (FOMRP) is an industry-university-government collaborative research center. The FOMRP has many interdisciplinary research efforts at Rutgers and at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. FOMRP is housed in a new 25,000-square-foot fiber optic research building that contains laboratories for the preparation and characterization of advanced optical materials, clean rooms, preform and fiber fabrication facilities, as well as laboratories for research in optical sensors, specialized coatings, and biomedical applications. The purpose of FOMRP is to conduct basic research in support of present
and future developments in the fiber optic field. FOMRP provides major
funding for graduate student research assistants in the ceramics program. For
