The Program

Rutgers' Graduate Program in Ceramic Science and Engineering offers courses of study that lead to the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. The program emphasizes the fundamental aspects of  material behavior, with a particular emphasis on ceramics.

Areas of specialization are fiber optic materials for transmission, surgical applications and sensing; nanostructured materials for strucutural and photonic applications; dielectric materials, including ferroelectric; battery and fuel cell materials; biomaterials and ultrasonic sensors; sol-gel processing; solid free-form fabrication, computer simulations of molecular structure and kinetics of glass;  sintering studies and ceramic-metal systems.
