Irazú

The active crater of Irazú.  The scoria from the vulcanian eruptions sequence in 1963-65 covers the upper left side of the vent.  It is a mix of scoria and bombs.  Intermingled with mostly dark, mafic magma are light blebs of a more silicic magma that must have mingled with the mafic lava shortly before the eruption.
