ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The Cape May County Mosquito Extermination Commission began testing its own mosquitoes in 1994 for the presence of Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus using a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technique, with a gel detection as well. Many species of mosquitoes are tested each year to give us early insight as to vector potential and viral activity in our County. Laboratory is in the process of being upgraded to a basic safety level (BSL-3) in order to do our own mosquito & bird testing for West Nile virus.
