Department of Public Resources
The Hudson County Office of Mosquito Control anticipates a significant increase in the staff assigned or deployed on behalf of Mosquito Control. Excluding the Environmental Interns, staffing patterns have been increased by 267% during the primary mosquito breeding season of 2000. It is further anticipated that the Hudson County Division of Parks, the Hudson County Division of Roads and Bridges, the Town of Secaucus Department of Public Works, and a team of Environmental Interns from the Colleges and Universities in the metropolitan area, will collaborate with the Hudson County Office of Mosquito Control. Larval applications, whether ground or aerial applied, will be performed only as a result of positive identification of active larval development. Applications will not be made in a fixed, or routine schedule.
The County Assistant Superintendent will spend more time identifying species of mosquitoes to be reported to the State Office of Mosquito Control Coordination and to Rutgers University. Under his direction, the Hudson County Mosquito Control team will coordinate the expanded daily monitoring of mosquito habitats, as well as collecting and identifying mosquito samples. Based upon the mosquito samples, a strategic application of larvicide will be applied.
The expanded staff will be provided with adequate training and expected to attend seminars, State meetings and report progress of mosquito control efforts. They will be expected to implement their knowledge and experience for effectiveness and efficiency in the following:
