2003 MOSQUITO POSTER CONTEST

See the 2002 Winners!, 2001 Winners!,  The 2000 Winners!, 1999 Winners! and the 1998 Winners!

In support of National Public Health Week, April 7-13, 2003 the New Jersey Mosquito Control Association, Inc. (NJMCA) is proud to invite your students to participate in our fifth annual poster contest!  National Public Health Week was established in 1995 to give recognition to the contributions of public health and related services.

Since 1913, the NJMCA has developed and encouraged effective and environmentally sound mosquito surveillance and control activities in order to protect the health and welfare of the public. The efforts of state and county programs continue to reduce the incidence of mosquito borne diseases and improve the quality of life in New Jersey.  In light of the presence of  West Nile Virus, a mosquito-borne disease, in New Jersey, this topic is of particular importance to the general public.

National Public Health Week gives us an opportunity to reflect on the role of mosquitoes in our states history, and of their potential to impact everyday life.  To prepare the poster, students may use resource materials collected through your school, or you may contact your local mosquito control agency for additional materials such as live mosquito larvae/adults, mounted specimens, educational videos, etc.  Further information can be obtained from the “NJ Mosquito Biology and Control” web site, which is located at:  www.njmosquito.org      Also, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a complete interactive educational program designed for elementary school students and teachers that is available on the Internet at:   http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/arbor/NEATO.HTM
