ants

These leaf-cutting ants are taking back portions of leaves to their colony. Why?

  1. To line the nest where the queen produces eggs.
  2. To repair colony walls after damage.
  3. To disguise the colony from raiding anteaters.
  4. To make mulch to grow the fungus that they eat.
