Everglades

February 2000

(wood stork to the right)

Just a few pics to show what we saw in the Everglades.  It was very relaxing, warm weather and only a few mosquitoes.  Great birding!

A Purple Gallinule

Before and after (Pete, then Black Vulture w/ gator)

At a bird rehab place on the Keys, we found pelicans and cormorants waiting for a fish dinner...They were totally unafraid of humans.

A Green Heron and some baby alligators

Pete with more of his vulture friends.

A Heliconius butterfly

A land snail on a gumbo limbo tree, with a close-up of that wonderful bark. Between is a shot of an unknown plant with colorful fruit.

Finally, at Shark Valley, we came across an unbelievable variety of birds.  Here, a Great Egret sits between a juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron at the left and a Green Heron to the right. These were actually a small part of an entire group, all near a gator.  Wild.
