Jewelry, (mostly) by Lisa Reed

Blueberry earrings, done spur of the moment when looking for something to mimic blueberries.  A blue round stone with small head caps turned backwards on a headpin.  My first piece of jewelry.  The stones are forever falling off so I’m always counting them when I wear them.

Summer 2006

A seed bead necklace: 5 strands of No. 11 seed (blue, green, red, silver, gold) braided with end caps and a toggle clasp. The braid is uneven (tighter in the beginning than the end), just as the basic jewelry book said it would be. The end caps and toggle clasp is too heavy, as the necklace slides to my back, making me think I’ve lost it.

My first wiring effort. Green glass beads with 20 gauge brass wire and green artist wire. I did most of this off the top of my head, and it looks like it, with some pretty glaring errors, such as the “spiral” on the lower left that I bent the wrong way. Oh well, I still like it, and wear it.

Summer 2006

My fishy cloisonné necklace. Beads are from The Bead Shop in Philadelphia. 20 gauge copper wire with simple coils and simple links. My original plan was to have the starfish act as a strand between the fish and the donuts, but I couldn’t work the connections out to my satisfaction.

Summer 2006

A birthday present for my sister Karen. I bought most of the material from the Birds and the Beads, in Morganville NJ. Recycled blue glass make up the main beads, with Asante (Baule?) disks and Ghanaian/Cote d’Ivoire brass beads. Green pressed glass with hints of a bronze border and smokey or topaz crystal bicones act as spacers. The bicones are used as links to the beaded clasp (crimps and covers used on 24 steel line string).

I bought these “Everlast”(?) shells that were strung as if a bracelet (two stretchy strings). I used most of the shells in this necklace, strung through the top hole with steel wire, with two rather metallic type of beads as spacers. These are also found on the end of the seed bead dangles which are fastened through both holes on the back of each shell.

Green and blue recycled glass beads, strung with a base metal spacer. Reminds me of something Egyptian.

This necklace was from a design that appeared in Beadwork (June?2006) and I love it. The design is by Kim Otterbein. The turquoise is from Brea Bead Shop and the circle from Beadazzled (DC), and used several types of 11 and 15 size seed beads to form the small strings. I was having a hard time to find a circle (ring, loop??) and someone said I could just cut off the connector from a toggle clasp, sand it and use it. D’oh! What a simple solution!

Summer 2006

I needed a watch, so a few stones later... The stones looks more red than brown in this photo. I believe they are some type of agate.

Solar System Necklace

From what looks to be a strand coming from the center of the crescent moon, there is the metallic Mercury, the violet Venus, Blue and Green Earth, Fiery Red Mars, about 5 brownish-gold asteroids, Red Chalcedony Jupiter, a Yellow-glass Saturn with a shell-ring, an antique pale green glass Uranus, and a darker mottled Neptune.  The "minor planet" Pluto lies off the clasp, amongst the Kuiper Belt.

Orange and Blue Stone Necklace

Another necklace for my sister: Orange jasper (?) round beads and blue agate donuts and disks interspersed with bronze and silver beads and spacers.  The pendant is presumably some type of amber. Placement of the necklace on a final string is imminent, with addition of the clasp (so it looks a little loose on the strand).

Green And Gold

A necklace for Mom, with a lampwork center bead, small brass beads, gold beads, and green (jadeite ?) tubular beads.

Christmas 2006.

Green, Purple, Brass (and a little Gold)

A necklace for myself, to wear for Tadhgh and Sybil's wedding. Green pressed glass and glass bicones with a dual bronze and purple color are interspersed with small bronze beads, larger brass beads, and the same gold beads used in the necklace above. Most beads in this and the previous necklace are from the Birds and the Beads store in Morgantown.
