The following section descibes the various type of employment available at Rutgers University Dining Services.
Part Time Student Employment
- Dining Services employs over 500 students.
Students work approximately 8 - 12 hours per week, and scheduling is very flexible,
working around your class schedule and other commitments.
The starting student worker pay rate is $7.50 per hour, with a bonus incentive program. To earn the bonus, students must meet the attendance requirements, earn bonus points, and work the required number of hours during final exams. Bonus points can be earned in a variety of ways, depending on which Dining Hall they are employed in. Students who meet the required guidelines can earn a bonus of $.50 per hour, which is paid at the end of each semester for all hours worked during that semester.
To encourage continued employment with the division, there is also an incremental pay scale, offering a higher pay rate on the anniversary date of employment. Anniversary dates are September, and January.
To apply for a position in the Student Employment Program, ask for an application at the Welcome Desk in the dining hall where you want to work. For employment at Brower Commons, please email the Brower Student Unit Manager
Promotional opportunities exist in each of the 4 dining halls. The Student Unit Manager is responsible for the Student Program, including hiring and training of the student work force. Meal Managers supervise student employees in the daily operation. Some dining halls have other promoted positions such as Payroll Clerk and Courtesy Desk Worker.
Catering Servers
- Positions are available as servers (waiters and waitresses) through Central Catering in Brower Commons and at the Rutgers Club. Apply in person at one of the above locations.
Concessions Workers
- Concessions hires students to work at Athletic Events in the
Louis Brown Athletic Center and the Stadium.

- To inquire about employment at any of our snack bars, Dunkin Donuts, Sbarro or other operations, apply in person at the facility.
Full Time and Part Time Non Student Employment
- Non-students seeking employment, full time or part time, will be scheduled to attend an Employment Information Workshop. To be scheduled for the workshop, please call the Personnel Office in Records Hall Room 104 732- 932-3602.
