Surveillance: Detection and Monitoring

The degree that a community can effectively control disease depends on the ability to detect and monitor disease progress. Our history here at Rutgers has included the development of mosquito population surveillance techniques and ongoing surveillance of arboviral disease. Cooperation through numerous partnerships has led to the development of these surveillance programs. Raw data from the county mosquito control agencies in the form of mosquito samples goes to NJDHSS Public Health and Environmental Laboratories for testing. Adult mosquito population data comes directly from these same county agencies to Rutgers. These data are tested, analyzed, put into report form and disseminated on the web. Funding for these reports is through the NJDEP State Mosquito Control Commission. Reports are in pdf format. Free reader is available at adobe.com
